Database Administrator

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Identifying who has access to the database
• Helping build the structure and design of the database
• Implementing security measures for the data
• Creating data backups & restoring lost data and updating systems when necessary
• Continually monitoring database systems, user access and security
• Monitor performance and manage parameters in order to provide fast responses to front-end users
• Map out the conceptual design for a planned database
• Further refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements
• Install and test new versions of the database management system (DBMS) and bugs testing
• Maintain data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act
• Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata)
• Control access permissions and privileges
• Ensure that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly
• Carry out capacity planning
• Work closely with IT project managers, database programmers and multimedia programmers
• Communicate regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security
• Manage the security and disaster recovery aspects of a database.

Qualifications

• Degree in Technology or Computer Engineering, Science, or a similar field
• At least 1-5 years of experience in the field of Database Administrator role.
• Experience with MS SQL, Oracle DB, and must have a thorough understanding of all the database languages of SQL, OQL, XQuery, SQL/XML and NoSQL as well as.
• Experience in project management, application design and integration, and cloud computing specifically Microsoft Azure.
• Professional certifications preferred
