Director Of Communications
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Communications Management:
· Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that supports the program’s objectives and enhances its visibility and impact.
· Align the communications strategy with USAID and DFAT guidelines and priorities.
· Provide strategic direction and oversight for all communication activities, ensuring consistent and coherent messaging across all platforms.
· Monitor and take relevant action on communication-related correspondences coming through Mekong Safeguards central email.
Content Creation and Management:
· Create and oversee the creation of a wide range of communication products, including reports, newsletters, press releases, social media content, videos, and infographics, including materials to support activity implementation and events such as invitations, agendas, banners, backdrops, brochures, pamphlets, booklets, and briefings, to name a few.
· Ensure all content is of high quality, visually appealing, and effectively communicates the program’s achievements and impact.
· Lead storyboarding, script content development, filming, and editing processes.
Media Relations:
· Establish and maintain relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and influencers.
· Develop and distribute press releases, media kits, and other materials to secure media coverage of the program’s activities and achievements.
· Organize and manage press conferences, media briefings, and other media events.
· Manage outgoing communications such as email blasts for save-the-date, surveys, etc.
Branding and Compliance:
· Ensure all communication materials adhere to USAID and DFAT branding and visibility requirements.
· Develop and enforce branding guidelines to maintain a consistent and professional image for the program.
· Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of branding strategies and make necessary adjustments.
· Develop templates (memos, reports, presentations, agendas, nametags, etc.) for programmatic use, adhering to the branding guidelines, including specific case-by-case requirements.
Event Management:
· Coordinate closely with the Event Manager to organize high-profile events, including conferences, workshops, and field visits.
· Develop materials from the event, such as drafting event reports and selecting and sharing photos with donors in a timely manner.
· Coordinate logistics and ensure effective communication and engagement with stakeholders before, during, and after events.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
· Develop and implement metrics and tools to assess the effectiveness of communication strategies and initiatives.
· Regularly evaluate the impact of communication activities and provide reports to senior management.
· Use data and feedback to improve communication efforts and outcomes continuously.
Digital and Social Media Management:
· Curate and manage the program’s website and social media presence, ensuring timely and engaging content.
· Develop and implement social media strategies to increase engagement and reach.
· Monitor social media trends and analytics to inform and refine strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Master’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, media studies, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
· Minimum of ten years of experience in communications, media relations, public relations, or a related field, preferably within the international development sector.
· Demonstrated experience in strategic communications planning and implementation.
· Proven track record in managing large-scale communication projects and campaigns.
· Expertise in media and documentary-style production, including planning, storyboarding, interviewing, filming, recording, and editing.
· Strong proficiency in digital media and editing software such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Final Cut Pro, and related tools.
· Experience with web content management systems and social media platforms.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in one or more Thai /Lao/Khmer/Vietnamese is an asset.
· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
· Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and manage cross-cultural communication.
· Experience with USAID and/or Australia DFAT programs is highly preferred.
· Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience managing and mentoring a team.
· Ability to manage relationships with external partners, including media production firms, consultants, and vendors.
· Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
