Optical Functional Test Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

• Yield Issue Investigation: Conduct detailed investigations to identify the root causes of yield issues in optical components and provide effective solutions.
• Test Station Development: Create procedures, preventative maintenance plans, and troubleshooting guides for test stations to support production.
• Debugging: Troubleshoot tester and product issues using techniques such as Design of Experiments (DOE), tools, and failure analysis methodologies. Use product block diagrams and circuits for debugging.
• Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvement opportunities using various analytical techniques (e.g., Statistical Process Control (SPC), DOE, Gauge R&R), lean manufacturing, and Six Sigma concepts.
• Documentation Support: Develop and support work instructions (WI), control plans, Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), and Failure Analysis (FA) documents.
• Travel Requirements: The role involves overseas travel approximately 30% of the time.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

Technical Skills:

• Optical Testing: Understanding of optical test methodologies such as Bit Error Rate (BER), Sensitivity, Wavelength, PAM4, and Extinction Ratio (ER).
• Test Equipment and Planning: Familiarity with optical test equipment and the creation of test plans.
• Electronics and Optics: Knowledge of electronic circuits, optical fibers, connectors, passive optical components (e.g., Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM), splitters), and Photonic Integrated Circuits (e.g., SiP, InP).
• Programming Skills: Experience in test programming, with LabVIEW and Python considered advantageous.
• Analytical Techniques: Proficiency in analytical techniques like Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design of Experiments (DOE), and Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (Gauge R&R).

Competencies:

• Problem Solving: Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
• Process Improvement: Experience with lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
• Documentation: Ability to support and develop detailed documentation and control plans.

Typical Experience

• Experience: 3+ years of work experience in optical testing, with a preference for experience with optical transceivers. Recent graduates are also encouraged to apply.
• Experience with Test Programming: Knowledge of test programming languages and tools (LabVIEW and Python are a plus).

Typical Education

• Degree: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, or a related field.
