Process Safety Management: Initiate, plan, advise, and support all aspects of Process Safety Management (PSM), including Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) risk management and loss prevention, to ensure compliance with relevant international standards. Focus on continuous improvement to prevent accidents/incidents and minimize potential risks.
Fire Prevention and Protection: Oversee and enhance fire prevention and protection systems, ensuring they meet international codes and standards. This includes fire & gas detection and protection philosophy, layout, mapping, hazard analysis, equipment specification, fire water demand, and distribution systems.
Team Leadership: Foster high morale and team spirit by advising, training, encouraging, and motivating team members. Ensure work is carried out to high professional standards and best practices.
Education:
B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering, Loss Management Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 10 years of practical, hands-on experience in Safety Engineering with a strong background in safety design.
Experience:
Legislation and Standards: Knowledge of safety regulations and international standards related to process design.
Fire Prevention and Protection: Technical expertise in engineering design for fire prevention and protection systems in compliance with international codes (e.g., DEP, NFPA, API). This includes fire & gas detection, location layout, hazard analysis, equipment specification, and fire water systems.
Modelling Studies: Experience with heat radiation and gas dispersion modelling using PHAST software. Ability to generate reports and recommendations to ensure designs and operations adhere to ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) principles.
Risk Assessment Methodology: Proficiency in risk assessment methods such as Bow Tie, HAZOP, etc.
Industry Experience: Proven experience in refinery and petrochemical safety design and construction safety management.
Problem Solving: Proactive with strong problem-solving skills and analytical thinking.
Influencing Skills: Ability to persuade and gain agreement or acceptance of plans and activities, and effectively guide others towards desired goals.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, essential for interacting with individuals at all levels and functions. Skilled in influencing and motivating others to achieve results quickly.
Leadership and Teamwork: Strong leadership skills, initiative, teamwork, and attention to detail.
Presentation and Training: Effective in presentation, training, and facilitation skills.
