About this Program

The Master of Science in Astronomy and Astrophysics is a two-year, full-time, in-person postgraduate degree offered by ANU’s College of Science and Medicine. The program is 100% coursework-based, and highly customizable to fit interests in areas such as galaxies, stars, cosmology, instrumentation, computing, and planetary science.

To complete the degree, you'll take 96 units, including:

  • 18 units of compulsory advanced courses (e.g., Galaxies & Cosmology, Stellar Astrophysics, and Astrophysical Processes),

  • At least 24 units from 8000-level electives (e.g., Astronomical Computing, Exoplanets, Instrumentation, Observational Techniques),

  • The remaining credits from other advanced astronomy electives or related scientific disciplines.
