Lead/ be a part of the instrument design team working on onshore or offshore feasibility, conceptual, basic engineering, FEED, detailed design and EPC/ EPCM projects.
Perform instrument engineering activities and review activities carried out by Engineers, Designers and CAD Operators.
Liaise with other departments, clients, vendor, subcontractors, third parties and approving authority.
Participate in inter-disciplines, project, client, vendor, subcontractors and third parties' meetings.
Participate in all design review such as HAZOP, SIL, P&ID review and 3D model review meetings
Perform all Inter-discipline check
Prepare scope of work, manhour and cost estimates for proposals.
Groom young engineers and provide advice to peers in his field of expertise.
Principal Engineer, who is a technical specialist, has the added responsibility to act in a consultancy role, providing advice and carrying out specialized engineering tasks.
As a Lead Engineer on project, he is also responsible for the following:
Advise the Department Manger the manpower and skill levels required to ensure smooth execution of the project.
Assign work to the team appropriately.
Conduct meetings at regular intervals with team members to review progress and share the lesson learnt & typical issues.
Overall responsible for the manhour & schedule monitoring and control and quality of the work produced.
Organize and maintain project technical filing and archiving.
Primary involvement in a typical project includes:
Prepare instrument design basis; control and shutdown philosophy and control narrative vendor offer review & technical bid evaluation, carryout vendor drawings/documents review and vendor data incorporation for the above instrument.
Provide input to specifications and requisitions for all mechanical equipment and provide input to technical bid evaluation for mechanical equipment
Perform Vendor data review of all Mechanical equipment
Review/Approve data sheets, & requisition for all field Instrumentation, Control valves, Analysers, On-off valves, Safety relief valves, DCS, ESD and FGS system and perform vendor offer review & technical bid evaluation, carryout vendor drawings/documents review and vendor data incorporation for the above instrument.
Review/check calculations for control valves, safety relieve valves, flow elements, restriction orifice; thermowell wake frequency and selection of the suitable valve.
Review/Check instrument air consumption and power consumption calculations.
Prepare/check Instrument system architecture; cause and effect matrix; inter-lock logic diagram; wiring and block diagrams; Instrument,
Review/Approve fire & gas and telecom layout, and E&I and control room layout.
Review/Approve Instrument cable tray layout, cable layout, cable schedule, tubing schedule, typical Installation detail, hook up drawings and bulk material take off.
Participate in Factory acceptance test and site acceptance test.
Assist in plant erection, commissioning and start-up.
About You
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Industrial, Instruments, Chemical, Electrical and Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum eight (8) years’ experience for senior and fifteen (15) years’ experience for principal in instrument engineering design in the Oil & Gas, Refineries, Petrochemical, Chemical and related industries. Experience should cover at least five (5) years of instrument engineering design with Engineering Consultant or EPC/ EPCM Contractor.
Highly motivated and strong leadership quality.
Conversant with International Codes and Standards and Engineering Practices used in the industry – API, ASME & ISA etc..
Good engineering knowledge of DCS, ESD, process Instrumentation, custody metering analyzer and functional safety in process plants.
Experience with Intools/ SmartPlant Instrument is an advantage.
Experience with PDS (E-Raceway) and PDMS is an advantage.
