As a key member of the Planning team, the Materials Planner ensures a steady supply of purchased components to the assembly line. This involves analyzing material requirements, planning deliveries, and adjusting purchase order schedules based on MRP (Material Requirements Planning) data. The goal is to maintain optimal raw material inventory levels within the system.
The role includes tracking timely shipments and deliveries, maintaining accurate transit time parameters in the system, and managing inventory levels in MRP to prevent material shortages, obsolescence, and overstocking. It also requires fostering strong, professional relationships with suppliers and all team members involved in the process.
- Ensure the assembly line is supplied with purchased parts.
- Maintain optimal inventory levels in MRP for each supplier and component, adhering to the planning strategy.
- Analyze, plan, and adjust purchase order deliveries according to the production plan and Engineering Change Notifications, as well as inventory adjustments.
- Monitor materials in transit.
- Negotiate delivery changes with suppliers as needed based on MRP data.
- Review and monitor raw material inventory levels at the supplier's location.
- Keep system parameters updated with official Lead Times.
- Create purchase requisitions for new components and requirements, as needed.
- Monitor daily on-time shipment performance.
- Track daily on-time deliveries and past-due performance.
- Identify potential risks based on MRP data.
- Communicate any identified risks promptly, following established procedures.
- Take actions to minimize or prevent excess inventory and obsolete parts, developing strategies and proposing solutions.
- Coordinate deliveries for subcontracting arrangements.
- Manage supplier supply disruptions using temporary delivery schedules that consider supplier lead times, transit times, customs processes, etc.
- Charge back any expenses to the supplier that are their responsibility (retrofit, expedites, line down situations).
- Follow up on material replenishment for any non-conformance alerts.
- Seek supplier collaboration in urgent situations.
- Develop and maintain regular, effective communication with suppliers.
- Resolve issues related to discrepancies in the 3-way match (physical, document, system).
- Provide support in obtaining necessary transportation and customs documents for special situations, as needed.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
- Participate in Quality Systems Control as applicable to the role.
- Adhere to all Health and Safety Rules.
