Course Overview
Objective
This master’s is designed for students who want to build advanced quantitative skills to tackle research questions involving spatial and geographic data in the social sciences. It’s especially suitable for those with a background in economics, statistics, geography, or other quantitative fields.Structure & Curriculum
The core learning takes place within the Department of Geography and Environment, with additional modules in Statistics and Research Methodology. You’ll learn how to gather, manage, visualize, and analyze geographic data using GIS tools, while also exploring urban economics, economic geography, environmental economics, or planning topics. The program ends with a dissertation where you apply what you’ve learned to an independent research question.Technical Focus
You’ll gain hands-on experience in programming (using tools like R, Python, and Stata), machine learning for spatial data, advanced spatial analysis, econometrics, and data visualization. The emphasis is on producing meaningful, policy-relevant insights from complex datasets.
