Course Overview

The Master of Artificial Intelligence is a two-year full-time program (or four years part-time for domestic students) delivered on-campus in Melbourne. In the first year, you’ll complete six core subjects in AI plus two electives. In the second year, you can choose between two pathways:

  • A Project stream, where you complete an AI project plus electives, or

  • A Research stream, which includes research methods and a minor thesis.
Students with a background in computing or IT may be eligible for advanced standing to shorten the course.

What You'll Learn
    • Strong technical foundation: Develop skills in AI systems design, implementation, advanced computing, machine learning, and data science, preparing you for both public-sector and corporate AI applications.

    • Work-integrated learning: Gain real-world experience through industry projects, practical tasks, and feedback that bridges theory with practice.

    • Project or research focus: Tailor your studies to your goals — whether you want more hands-on industry experience or to build research skills for a possible PhD.
